These ASA Awards are aimed predominantly at the Junior Swimmer (12 and under) as a means of measuring progress and motivating the swimmer.  The actual award is a round Badge + Certificate (£2.50) and/or a cloth Flash (£1.00).

There is a My Awards form to download to record your times as you get them.

WHAT

There are awards for SPRINT and MIDDLE DISTANCE in each of the 4 strokes plus the Individual Medley and DISTANCE awards for 800/1500m freestyle and the 400 IM.  There are times to achieve in a variety of SPRINT, MIDDLE DISTANCE or DISTANCE events.

So for example getting your Gold 50M Freestyle time will earn you the GOLD SPRINT AWARD award, but also remember that there are also 3 other Freestyle Sprint distances to attain, 25M, 33⅓M and 100M.

HOW

The awards can be earned either through official times done in individual events in competitive galas (not relay splits) or in official Time Trials.

In Time Trails as in any competition the stroke must be legal for the time to valid.

Improvement should be a combination of a better technique as well as greater stamina.  At this age speed is not paramount, technical ability should be the primary goal, with it (and greater strength & stamina) will come faster times.

This is what the ASA web site says about these awards;

"Times are consistent with the ASA Graded Swimming Times and that Gold Standards approximate to average county age group qualifying times for 12 year old boys. When this level is reached, there is a good chance that these swimmers would qualify at county level. Platinum awards are normally used by clubs and squads as improvement indicators for group progressions"

The relevant Certificate + Badge and/or Flash can be ordered through the club desk on a Friday Night at Stratford Leisure Centre, please make sure you bring the relevant gala/time trial results and payment with you when ordering.

Awards will only be awarded to performances from Official Time Trials or times in the SwimmersTimes file in the Results section of the website.
