Essential Kit
for Swimmers
We are seeing a lot more swimmers on poolside without
the bare essentials of kit, please can you ensure you have the following
minimum of essentials at each session;
All Squads
Water Bottle - 500ml
(drink one per hour)
Club hat (+ spare)
Goggles (+ spare pair)
Short Fins
Pullbuoy
Kickboard
Netbag
Seniors
Speak to Mike Cole before buying paddles or other equipment
Please ensure the goggles you have for training
are a good fit and 'fit for purpose'.
We see a lot of 'mask' type goggles that just don't fit properly.
When swimmers have a hat on the goggles should not sit on the cap
at all or they will leak. Goggles
such as the Speedo Junior Futura type up to the Speedo Speedsocket
(favoured by the senior swimmers) are great for most faces.
The club shop stocks Hats, Speedsocket Goggles, Fins,
Pullbuoys, Kickboards, Netbags and much more and for a limited period up
to Friday 12th February we will take orders for these
essentials at a special price.
Please use the order form available
here and hand it in to club desk by Friday 12th February.
Samples of most items are in stock but we will place a special
order for all items that are sold out and for named hats.
Karen Walker will be at the following pools/sessions
this week so you can give your order in then (with
payment please) if you wish.
Friday - Stratford - 6.30-8.45pm.

Young Volunteers Project
The West Midland region has established a project to get young people to
help within its swimming clubs. The Young Volunteers Project
offers a programme of courses such as the Poolside Helper course, a
timekeeper course, a young aquatic organiser award and also a team
manager training course. All designed to encourage volunteering
within a swimming club. Details are in this
leaflet, and should you wish to enrol on the programme, please fill
in your details and then return it to me by Friday 22nd January at the
latest. I will then collate the registration forms and forward
them together and then ideally all the Stratford Sharks volunteers can
attend the training courses together. My understanding is that you do
not have to commit to attending all the courses, but you are encouraged
to attend all those that you are able to. As the leaflet details,
once you have registered they send you the details to be able to book
onto the relevant courses.
This is an ideal opportunity as the places are funded by the region
rather than the swimming club or the individual. In addition to that it
is an ideal opportunity for those wanting to gain extra qualifications
particularly within the P.E. environment and/or those undertaking Duke
Of Edinburgh Awards, or just to further your experience.
Karen Walker.
