 Girls show winning ways at Mercian

  The final round of the Mercian League saw Stratford Sharks A team coming 3rd with some tremendous swims especially for the girls 14yrs & Open swimmers who gained six of the seven 1st place and four 2nd place swims.


  An excellent start was made for the older girls by Helen Livesey with a victory in the 100m Open Fly & 2nd in the 100m Free, Helen was joined by Charlie Cassidy-Morris, Natalie Smith & Hattie Beaumont for both the Open Medley Relay and Freestyle Relay to show the youngsters how to win taking 1st place in both events.


  The 14yrs girls were also showing fine form with Fran Cassidy-Morris swimming the 14yrs & Open 100m Breaststroke finishing strongly to win both events, Fran was joined by Caroline Cardwell, Grace Wright and Rebecca Sherren to go on and win the 14yrs Medley Relay convincingly. Second places went to Caroline Cardwell 100m Back, Grace Wright 100m Fly and Rebecca Sherren in a fingertip finish in the 100m Free, Grace, Fran & Caroline were joined by Hattie Beaumont to also get second in the Freestyle Relay.


  Amongst the younger swimmers there were some excellent performances also with Josh Walker again swimming well to win the 10yrs 50m Back and a close 3rd in the 1 length Fly. Joe Dancer swam a personal best to get 2nd in the 12yrs 100m Free, Joe was joined by Aaron Brough, Josh Newman & James Page to get a well deserved 2nd in the 12yrs Freestyle Relay.


  Other fine swims came from Elliot Smith 3rd in the Open 100m Fly, Rebecca Tame & Aaron Brough both 3rd in the 12yrs 100m Back, the boys breaststroke events saw three swimmers taking 3rd place with James Page 12yrs getting a personal best, Alex Titcomb 14yrs both swimming 100m Breast & Harry Frankland 10yrs 50m Breast.


  The final Mercian signals the end of the season for league swimming which will resume again in October with the start of the Speedo League plenty of time for the swimmers to enjoy their holidays. Well, done to everyone who has competed in the leagues this year.
