| Tough Competition in Speedo League |
Stratford Sharks A travelled to Nuneaton for Round 2 of the Speedo league they were up against tough competition from the clubs at the top of the league, Stratford Sharks needed 145 points to make the final. The evening got off to a good start with Claire Bassinder getting a P.B and Club Record in the 100m IM, the girls 11yrs Freestyle relay followed with a 2nd place for Lydia Ratcliff, Lily Russell-Wilks, Frances Goss & Becky Tame, while the 15yrs girls Emma White, Fran Cassidy-Morris, Grace Wright & Charli Cassidy-Morris were 3rd as were the 11yrs boys with Aaron Brough, Ben lane, Josh Walker and Josh Newman. These positions were admireable with the competion we were up against. The first win of the evening came in the Mens Open 100m Fly with a tremendous swim from James Wardle again setting a new club record, the Butterfly brought a number of points for the team with Megan Stanley and Aaron Brough both 3rd in the 11yrs 50m Fly. Emma White swam up in the Open category although finishing 6th she did a p.b. and set a new club record against a senior field. Emma improved her position in the 100m Free with a close finish to take 3rd, Emma rounded off her evening with a win in her best event the 100m Breast, 11yr old Becky Tame also showed her form in the 50m Breaststroke with a 2nd place. Lawrie Mills competing in three events managed a commendable 3rd place in the 15yrs & Open 100m Back and the 100m Free gaining valuable points. James Wardle brought the individual events to a storming finish with a triumphant 100m Freestyle swim again setting a p.b. and new Club Record of 52.67. Other Club records went to Carla Bosworth Open 100m Free and George Brear 15yrs 100m Breaststroke. The points position was very close coming into the relays to finish the evening, the 11yrs girls Medley team of Becky Tame, Lily Russell-Wilks, Megan Stanley and Lydia Ratcliff finishing 2nd as did the 15yrs boys Lawrie Mills, George Brear, Jon Tanner & David Townsend. Finishing in 3rd were the 11yr boys Ben Lane, Josh Walker, Aaron Brough & Josh Newman and the 15yrs girls Emma White, Fran Cassidy-Morris, Hannah Molloy and Grace Wright. Other p.b's on the night were achieved by Ben Lane 50m Back, Ben Brough 100m Fly, Adam Brear 100m Breast and Emma Bysouth 100m Free. Even with the fine performances on the evening unfortunately Sharks finished 1 point short of making the final, the third round will be held in December where the Sharks will be swimming to finish as high as possible in the League.
