 Warwickshire Counties Report - Week 3

  Last Saturday saw the final round of the Warwickshire County Swimming Championships at Coventry with no fewer than 36 Stratford Sharks swimmers competing. First event was the boys 100m freestyle and provided the opportunity for club rivals Alex Helliwell, Josh Newman and Michael Ankrett to produce good personal best performances. Lawrie Mills went on to win the Final with George Brear managing seventh place. Later in the day Lawrie went on to collect another pot for his fourth County title this year with a win in the 400m freestyle Final. Robert Jolly qualified for the 50m butterfly final and finished 6th place.


  The girls were not to be upstaged either with excellent swims in the 100m Breaststroke for Megan Stanley, Beck Tame and Eve Morley all finishing in the top five for their age group. Sharks also finished strongly in this Final with a win for Emma White and Claire Bassinder in second place. Claire had a busy day with swims in two further finals, fifth in 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly. Emily Key was another finalist with third place in the 50m freestyle.


  Junior Sharks were well represented with many competing for the first time in this prestigious event. Notable improvements were made by Ed Caswell in the 50m backstroke as well as Sian Morris and Kara Malins in the 50m freestyle all with strong personal best times. In total this years County Championships have seen an impressive 150 personal bests, 12 club records, 12 Midlands district times and 3 National qualifying times for Sharks swimmers.
