| Warwickshire Counties 2008 Week 1 |
The first of three county championship galas at Coventry took place on the first Saturday in March and Sharks swimmers led the way with a set of super results. The day got off to a fine start with Becky Tame setting a personal best and club record in the 400m Individual Medley. Edward Caswell, Joshua Walker and Joe Evans in the 200m Backstroke all set personal best times and Joe took the silver medal in his age group. The girls 50m Backstroke saw Rebecca Sherren set a personal best and reach the Final in which she finished 7th. The younger shark’s team members also performed well and many set personal bests including Sasha Mitchell Ellen Price, Caitlin Stephenson, Lucy Tame, Caroline Ankrett and Emma Bysouth. George Brear and Michael Ankrett contested the 100m Breaststroke both of them setting personal bests and George setting another club record and achieving 5th place in the final. The girls 200m Freestyle saw Molly Wright, Sophie Warden perform well and gain personal bests however it was the older girls who stole the show with Emily Key finishing 3rd overall and Rebecca Sherren gaining 6th place a personal best and another club record. The morning session was rounded off with a fabulous 2nd place in the girl’s 11-16 medley relay team consisting of Sherren, Tame, Grace Wright and Key. The afternoon session saw Lawrie Mills in impressive form demonstrating how to swim the 1500m and in doing so taking the county title and a club record. Joshua Walker also took part in this gruelling event and was rewarded with a personal best. The next race saw sharks supporters raising the roof as the girls open freestyle relay team of Carla Bosworth, Key, Sherren and Emma Wright win the county title in emphatic style. The boys 50m Freestyle was hotly contested with many swimmers setting personal bests including Joshua Martindale, Sandy Forsyiak, Matt Newman and Alex Helliwell. Both Caswell and Evans setting personal bests and club records Evans finishing 1st in his age group along with Michael Ankrett who finished 4th and Brear making the final and finishing 5th. The girls 100m Butterfly saw White and Wright make the final finishing in 6th and 5th place respectively, Wright in a new personal best time. In the boys equivalent Evans, Ankrett and Joshua Newman all recorded personal bests with Evans taking another 1st place in his age group. The girls 200m Breaststroke rounded off the days events and did not disappoint with White in excellent form taking the county title followed by a gutsy swim from Becky Tame being rewarded by a super 4th place.
