 Birmingham Open Meet March 2008

Whilst for most people the Easter weekend break meant four days of rest and recuperation this was not the case for four of the Stratford Sharks Swim Team. The Easter open, hosted by City of Birmingham swimming club was a four day festival of swim with all the events covered.

Good Friday saw the 1500m in which two Sharks were entered Joe Evans swam an excellent race to win the event in a personal best time and Midland District Qualifying Time. The second intrepid swimmer was Joshua Walker who achieved an excellent swim knocking off twenty seconds from his personal best and a club record. Joshua also swam a personal best in the 100m freestyle knocking two seconds off his time. The Girls were represented by Becky Tame who choose the 400m IM. Another strong swim by Becky produced a personal best and a club record.

Emma Bysouth was the busiest of the Sharks swimmers, swimming over three days. The highlights have to be her 400m freestyle in which she knocked off an incredible nine seconds off her personal best and in doing so achieved her Midland District Qualifying Time. A feat she also replicated in the 50m Freestyle with an explosive piece of swimming. After having a long time out of the water due to illness Emma is really returning to form her other swims also showed her fitness is returning.

On the Monday Emma was joined by young Shark Edward Caswell who is swimming with a great positive attitude. Edward was rewarded with two personal bests in the 200m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke and his other swims show that things are moving in the right direction. After another successful weekend of swimming for Sharks it was home for a well deserved Easter egg!
