| Nuneaton Junior League 2008 Round 1 |
The first round of the Junior league took place at Walsall. The shark’s team was weakened due to a rugby tour. Annie Cox Had a tremendous swim to win the Girls’ 9yr Breaststroke this was followed by Jonathon Furey finishing 2nd in the boys’ race. Cox was joined by Chloe Hale, Eleanor Bird and Sasha Mitchell to finish 3rd in both the Medley and Freestyle relays. Furey was joined by Christian Clements, Gregor Kelling and Matthew Burgum to take a superb second place in the freestyle relay. Molly Wright, Annie Wright, Ailsa Gavan McHarg and Isabella Wright all swam well to take a second place in the Girls’ 10yrs Medley Relay. Molly and Isabella’s hard work was rewarded with personal bests in their individual swims. The boys in this age group Harry Forty, and Ben Jones had a tough test, both were rewarded with personal bests and gained valuable experience in the process The 11yr girls’ had the talent of Lucy Castle and she raced to two victories in the Freestyle and Backstroke events supported by the ever improving Sophie Reynolds who finished a close second in the Breaststroke. Castle and Reynolds were joined by Megan Pashley, Eleri Williams and Ellen Price to achieve 3rd and 4th places in the Medley and Freestyle relays. The Boys in this age group had several swims each and all performed extremely well. The Andrew Morley, Sandy Forysiak, Cameron Walker and Ed Caswell combined well to take 2nd and 3rd place in both relays. Individually Morley finished 2nd in the Backstroke and third in the Butterfly, both in personal bests, Forysiak 2nd in the Breaststroke and Caswell a superb 1st place in the Freestyle. Caswell and Forysiak swam up an age group and achieved creditable performances against older boys’. The oldest age group competing were the 12yrs, Lucy Tame put in to strong performances considering she had a strained thigh muscle from school athletics the previous day! Gwennan Williams pulled a Personal best out of the bag in her two lengths fly and Laura Bryan cruised to victory in the Breaststroke also in a personal best time. For the boys Dan Siviter showed an improvement in his backstroke which was rewarded with a personal best. In the relays Tame, Williams and Bryan were joined by Price to take 3rd and 4th places. Siviter was joined by the consistent and reliable Alex Callaghan, Morley and Caswell to finish a close 4th in the freestyle relay. After a tough competition Sharks finished a creditable 5th place only twelve points separating 3rd – 5th, a promising start to the campaign
