Coventry & Tigersharks Open Meets April 2008

One of the final open meets of swimming to qualify for the Midland Age Group Championships in June took place at Coventry. Three of the younger sharks’ team members took this opportunity to achieve the qualifying times and all three achieved their goals!

Josh Walker was in tremendous form and achieved qualifying times in both the 100m and 400m freestyle events setting large personal bests in the process. He also swam an excellent 200m IM just missing out on the qualifying time.

Edward Caswell and Matthew Newman were entered in the 200m freestyle, drawn in the same heat an epic battle of four lengths took place. Newman lead over the first 100m with Caswell about a metre behind, at the turn Caswell picked up the pace and took the lead. The final length had parents and coaches urging the duo on as the clock ticked down. On the touch Caswell had made the qualifying time by over two seconds and in doing so achieved another huge personal best. Newman’s determined last length was rewarded with his qualifying time and another personal best. Brilliant swimming by both boys! Caswell went on to record two further personal bests in the 50 Backstroke and 200m IM.

The Tigersharks meet at Swindon attracted several Sharks’ swimmers and several excellent swims were recorded. Michael Ankrett was in top from winning the 50m and 100m freestyle. In the 200m he set a fine personal best and also finished 2nd in the 100m butterfly. Gwennan, Eleri and Rhiannon Williams all had excellent swims achieving eight personal bests between them.
