| Mercian Summer League Rd 2 |
The second round of the Mercian league took place at Wombourne leisure centre at the beginning of June. After winning the first round expectations were high and the team did not disappoint. Adam Brear was consistent as usual picking up two second places and a third place in his individual events. Michael Ankrett was also in good form in securing a win in the 100m freestyle and a third place in the 100m fly. In the 14yr old boys Alex Helliwell, Josh Newman, Jacob Humphries and Ankrett had some excellent swims keeping the points tally rising. The 14yr old girls had further success with Kara Malins, Caroline Ankrett, Rhiannon Williams and Emily Castle gaining a win in the medley relay and a second place in the freestyle relay. Ankrett and Williams taking second places in their individual events. The girls 12 years medley and freestyle relay team bagged a further two wins. The team comprising of Lucy Castle, Laura Bryan, Lucy Tame and Gwennan Williams were also successful individually Bryan (breast) and Tame (free and back) winning their events in fine style and Williams taking a solid third place in the fly. The 12yr old boys also picked up two second places Andrew Morley, Sandy Forysiak, Daniel Siviter and Josh Martindale combined well in both the freestyle and medley relays. Morley and Forysiak gained second places in their individual events. Martindale achieved a second place in the fly and followed this with a win in the freestyle Molly Wright showed good form in the 10yr backstroke gaining second place. Eleri Williams won the 10yr breaststroke in fine style and was third in the fly. Personal bests on the night were secured by Ankrett, Ailsa Gavan McHarg, Jonathon Furey and Martindale. The final points saw the Shark’s team record a fine second place on the night 18 points behind the Halesowen team but ahead of Rugby, Wombourne, Northgate and Fox Hollies.
