 Rotherham Metros May 2009

Three members of Stratford Sharks travelled to the countries premier swimming venue, Pond’s Forge, Sheffield for a weekend of hard competition in the popular Rotherham Metro Open Meet. Attracting entries from 93 clubs from as far apart as Guernsey and Scotland it was extremely successful for the Sharks swimmers, with 9 top 3 finishes from a total of 18 swims including 9 new club records. Emma White (19) was competing under the banner of Loughborough University in the Open age group, and showed her class in the Breaststroke events by taking gold in the 100m in a new club record, silver in the 200m and bronze in the 50m.

In the men’s competition were James Wardle (23) in the Open age group and Joe Evans (16) in the 15/16 years. In the 100m Fly, Wardle swam to a new open age group club record to finish 4th, Evans taking the 16yr age group club record finishing 7th. Moving on to the 50m Freestyle, both were once again in excellent form with Wardle taking the gold in his age group with Evans the bronze in the 15/16 years, once again both in new club records.

The next club record fell to Joe Evans who took his age group gold in the 200m Freestyle, with Wardle finishing 4th in the Open age group. Both were in action in the 100m Freestyle and again showing their power in the freestyle events, both broke club records with Wardle the fastest on the day to take gold and Evans bronze in his age group. Wardle then went on to add another club record and bronze medal in the 50m Fly.
