 Northampton Summer Festival Report

  With between 50 and 60 swimmers competing in each age group, this was a hugely popular end of season meet held on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th at the Ken Marriott Centre, Rugby. Competitors had come from as far as Nottingham, Romford and Lincoln and because of its popularity the gala had been closed to additional entries back in May. Sharks were represented by Claire Bassinder, Emma Bysouth, David Townsend, Danny Williams, Benjamin Brough and Aaron Brough.


  Sibling rivalry in all strokes helped brothers Benjamin and Aaron Brough to achieve a fantastic 10 medals a piece across the 50m to 200m events. Aaron collected gold in the 10-year, 200m butterfly in a club record, personal best time. Not to be out done older brother Benjamin picked up first place in the 50m butterfly and 100m breastroke. In the 14 year age group David Townsend achieved gold in the 200m freestyle and silver in the 200m individual medley, 50m and 100m butterfly.


  Danny Williams represented the club for the 13 year old boys and swam with great strength, achieving personal best times in a number of his events. For the girls Emma Bysouth swimming in the 10 year age group achieved gold in the 50m freestyle in an excellent personal best time of 32.53 seconds and was placed in the top three in the 200m individual medley, 100m and 200m freestyle.


  In a highly competitive 14 year age category, Claire Bassinder gained medals in the 100m freestyle, 50m and 100m butterfly. With an 08:00am warm up each morning the Stratford Sharks swimmers, represented the club well and remained competitive and dedicated throughout a long and testing, 5 session weekend.
