 Juniors seek MDQT's at Rugby

  The Rugby Open is a popular event for Stratford Sharks, this year was also the last opportunity for some of the Jnr squad to attain Midland District times, they were not to be disappointed. The event is over two days and medals are awarded to the first six in each age group.


  David Townsend got the first medal of the day with 5th place in the 100m backstroke, this medal was followed swiftly with an exciting final heat which saw Emma White 1st and Fran Cassidy-Morris 2nd in the girls 50m Breaststroke event. David also made the final heat of the boys 50m Breast, this time coming 6th.


  Emma & Fran were lining up again for the 100m Breastroke later in the morning which ended with same outcome as the 50m Emma 1st and Fran 2nd. The morning finished with a flurry with Frances Goss & Emma Bysouth both getting their MDQT in the 200m Freestyle.


  The afternoon started well with Emma Bysouth 11yrs geting 3rd and her MDQT in the 100m Fly and Katie Pavel also getting a medal for 4th place in the same event. John Tanner for the 14yrs boys topped the girls on this occasion with a fast finish to get 1st place and achieve his MDQT in 100m Fly.


  The 50m Back followed the 100m Fly, with the girls once again increasing the medal tally with Katie Burley 10yrs 4th, Sophie Burley 12yrs 6th, Charli Cassidy-Morris 5th & Katie Pavel 6th 15/over.


  Day two started with the girls 100m Freestyle this is always an exiting event with only 100th of a second splitting some of the competitors times, Frances Goss 10yrs got the medals started with 6th place, Emma White 14yrs 3rd and Claire Bassinder 15/over in a very close finish just beaten into 2nd place all of the girls also recording a personal best.


  This was proving to be a good day for the girls with further medals in the 50m Fly for Megan Stanley 10yrs 4th, Emma White 14yrs 2nd, Claire Bassinder and Katie Pavel 5/over in the final heat again finishing very close in 2nd and 5th. The only boy to get a medal in the 50m Fly was Dan Williams 14yrs coming 5th in a 3 second PB.


  In the 200m Breaststroke which is an Open category once again Emma White and Fran Cassidy-Morris were in the final heat on this occasion Emma was 3rd and Fran 6th overall. Megan Stanley 10yrs swam an excellent PB to get her MDQT in this event.


  The final event the gruelling 200m Fly saw Grace Wright getting a very commendable 3rd place in 13/under. Other swimmers on the day who didn't get a medal but achieved PB's were Matt Willam, Rebecca Tame, Katie Cardwell, Jack Pilling & Caroline Cardwell.
