| Top Performances at Coventry & Districts |
The Coventry & District Championships took place at the Pingles, Nuneaton, the pool proved to be very fast on the day with tremendous swims from all the swimmers with notable performances from Josh Walker, Georgina Harrington, Fran Cassidy-Morris, Aaron Robinson & Emma White all taking more than eight seconds off personal best times. Always a big achievement especially for the older swimmers. Medals are awarded for the first six in each age group in the sprints and the first six overall in the 200m. The day started with the 50m Free this is a sprint event which always sets the pace, Jon Tanner was just pipped into 2nd place to start the medal tally, the boys 100m Free again a very close fought battle saw Tom Pilling take 3rd place. Jon and Tom were determined to improve on these positions which they did with Jon getting a gold in the 14yrs 50m Fly and Tom gold in the 15yrs 50m Back. Jon was consistent throughout the day with a further silver in the 200m Free and a 3rd in the 100m Free. Tom also increased his medal tally with a 4th in the 50m Fly. The girls were not going to be beaten and the first gold of the day went to 14yrs Fran Cassidy-Morris who had a tremendous swim to win the Open 200m Breaststroke against stiff competition. The 100m back brought more fantastic swims from Emma White 2nd, Claire Bassinder 4th & Charli Cassidy-Morris 5th all in personal best times. Emma, Claire and Charli went on to dominate the 50m Back again with all three collecting medals for 2nd, 4th & 6th. The younger swimmers collected their first medals in the Boys 50m Fly with Matt Williams 4th & Josh Newman 5th and Megan Stanley battling for 2nd in a tight finish for the girls. Josh Walker and Josh Fell joined their younger team mates medal tally in the boys 9yrs 50m back with Josh Walker showing great improvement to win and Fell 4th, Megan took 4th place for the girls. Emma White was back in action along with Claire Bassinder to get her first win of the day in a club record time with team mate Claire 2nd in the girls 200m IM, Emma went on to take a second gold in the 50m Fly in the evening session. Two more team mates fought it out in the 14/over 100m Breast which was one of the closest finishes of the day with Fay Malling having a well deserved win and Fran Cassidy-Morris a close fought 2nd. Other medal winners on day one were Dan Williams 2nd 14yrs 50m Fly, Hattie Beaumont 4th 13yrs 100m Breast, Georgina Harrington 4th 12yrs 100m Free, Alex Titcomb 5th 13yrs 100m Breast and 6th in the 100m Free. Day two saw some different names on the medals with the 50m Back proving successful for Becky Tame getting a 3rd in the 11yrs, Georgina Harrington improving on this in the 12yrs getting 1st place. Aaron Robinson also saw his first medal with a well deserved 2nd place in the 14yrs. Megan Stanley was swimming into more medals wins taking 4th place in the 10 yrs 50m Breast, 3rd in the 100m IM and 50m Free. Becky Tame improved on her medal tally also with a further 3rd place in the 50m Breast and then two 2nds in the 100m Fly and the 100m Back. The younger boys weren't going to be beaten with Josh Walker setting a new Club Record to win the 9yrs 50m Free and Josh Fell finishing 4th. The snr swimmers finished the day with Charli and Fran Cassidy-Morris lined up next to each other for the 100m Freestyle finishing 3rd and 6th respectfully, not a close battle, Aaron Robinson and Dan Williams in the 50m Breast, a closer finish with 3rd and 4th and finally Claire Bassinder who had been swimming in Stoke on the previous day picking up two first places ending the Coventry & Districts also with two 1sts in the 100m Free and the 100m Fly. This was a very successful weekend for the Sharks swimmers, no fewer than 68 personal bests an excellent performance. |
