The Ginger North Relay Gala

Feb saw the start of the first team gala the Ginger North Relay gala hosted by Leamington swimming club, this is an annual team gala for 9-12 year olds with a slightly crazy format as it features relays in single strokes other than freestyle, every swimmer swims around 5/6 relays in free, breast, medley and 12 year olds swim fly. The other teams in the gala were Leamington, Coventry, Nuneaton and Bedworth and Blythe Barracudas. Sharks took a strong team to this one and we placed 4th. The standout results of the event was our winning boys breaststroke relay team of Jacob S, Harry C, Carsten L and Andrei U.  After the work put in on training sessions on relay starts it was nice to see no DQ's for takeovers.

The Boldmere JIM

The Boldmere junior invitational is an event hosted at Ladywood leisure centre for swimmers aged 8-12, this is usually everyone's first taste of proper competition as it is run exactly the same as an open meet. It is also used as a trial for the Junior league as ages as per the junior league. It only features 50m events in all strokes (25m for 8-9 ages) and 100m Medley so it is the ideal starter gala for getting some times recorded. Sharks took 30 swimmers to the events with many being their first ever time competing, it was a very long day poolside and everyone who took part did amazingly well with some great swims and also it was nice to see some of the younger swimmers make some friends poolside as they dont get to talk too much in training.

    The club has also booked Pingles Nuneaton for the Mike Wardle Sprints on June 22nd, so please put it in your diary, invites will go out soon along with the May Coventry and Districts.
