Team Manager

Team managers help out at open meets and galas sorting kids into their races and dealing with any issues poolside.
Before you become a team manager you need :-

All costs for courses is covered through the club and you are provided with team manager kit. You will get free entry to galas and are often provided with lunch/refreshments for helping out.

Officials

At all galas we are required to provide a number of officials as part of the entry criteria, most competitions require around 16-10 officials per session and it is a rewarding job and helps to pass the time at open meets, you can also watch your swimmers compete from poolside.
Before you are allowed to officiate you are required to obtain:-

  • Swim England registration (contact membership)
  • Officials course, most people start with timekeeping and then move onto Judge 1
  • to complete the Judge 1 your are required to complete around 12 hours poolside (4-5 galas) 

You will be provided with officials kit (stopwatch, clipboard and white top) and all courses are covered by the club. 

Academy Crew 

Once swimmers at the club reach the age of 14, they can apply to be part of the academy crew to assist at academy sessions on weds (shipston) and friday/ saturday at stratford.
This is a great way to gain experience of helping running sessions before going onto do either the coaching courses or swim teacher courses.

  • You will have a good understanding of the club and the structure of its sessions and competitions.
  • You will be enthusiastic and passionate about the development of all club members.
  • You will have a basic understanding of aquatics and safety within sessions.
  • To follow the instructions of the coach / teacher to support the delivery of the session.
  • To keep the roster updated so we can keep track of who is helping.
  • You should be a current swimmer actively attending swim training yourself each week.

When you reach 16 you will have to complete a dbs check and do the Swim England safeguarding course.

There is a poolside helper course.

Poolside helpers

Poolside helper are the same as academy crew but over 16 and can be older swimmers or parents, this again is a good way to get experience assisting sessions before doing the swim England coaching courses. The club usually has a fund to pay the cost of coaching courses and we do get a big discount from Swim west midlands. You will need the following before starting poolside help.

Gala Helpers

At a lot of galas there are other jobs which need filling, these are more casual jobs and do not require specific training.

  • Medals desk
  • Results running
  • Stewards/Marshalls
  • Refreshments

General Club Running 

The club functions on a number of roles being filled voluntarily we have various roles which are

  • Membership (trials, registrations and general membership questions)
  • Fixtures (sorting gala entries, importing results, liasing with other clubs to get our entries in)
  • Volunteer coordinator (sorting out volunteers for galas, team manger line ups, poolside)
  • Officials coordinator (enrolling new officials, sorting out officials for each gala)
  • Accreditation Coordinator (ensuring the clubs annual swim mark is up to date) 
  • Dbs Verifiers (checking dbs details for new volunteers/coaches)
  • Kit orders (club hats, named hats)
  • Trustee (anyone is welcome to apply to be a trustee to help with overall club decisions, email secretary@)
