Club Shutdown

Reminder, CLUB SHUT DOWN 3rd AUGUST - 17th AUGUST (INCLUSIVE) last session Sat 2nd, first session back Mon 18th.

Thanks to all the coaches, and everyone who volunteers at the club for all the help provided and we hope everyone has a great summer break, without all your help the club really could not run. Club emails will be on out of hours for the 2 weeks to give eveyone time to recharge ready for the start of the new season which kicks off this year at the Coventry Sprints end of September.

Mike Wardle Sprints

The Mike Wardles Sprints Event was held early June at Redditch, this has grown each year and we had 107 entries up from 96 last year. This was all the 50s and 100IM, there were some great swims across the board with a number of younger swimmers qualifying times for the county championship (Josh, George, Emilia, Dylan, Adam).

We also saw Harry Connor destroy the club short course 50 breast stroke time in under 33 seconds swimming the fastest 50 breast time in the UK by a 13 year old.
A lot of kids were doing their first gala and there was some really impressive swimming across the board with very few DQs, so well done to everyone who took part and also thanks to everyone who helped out as it does take a lot of volunteer time to run a proper licensed meet.
The full list of results can be found here.

Masters News

In June Neil and Ali headed off to London Aquatics to take part in the GB Aquatics Masters National championships.

They were both were in action again at Alan Higgs in June for the Kenilworth masters Open Meet. Attending were Ali, Neil, Sam, Sally, Katie and Rob. The team picked up several medals including Neil (1st 50 back and 100 back), Sally (3rd 50 fly, 50 back) Katie (1st 50 fly, 200IM), Rob (1st 50 free, 200 Free, 2nd 50 breast, 100 free), Ali(1st 50 breast, 2nd 200 free). Most impressively Sally lowered both club rankings for 50 fly and 50 back and jumped up the UK rankings to be top 10 for both events for her age group ! Callum and Megan the same weekend completed the Big Welsh swim (9km !!).
Innes and Matt jetted off to Spain to compete in a triathlon with a very choppy sea based swim, Innes finished very high up on the swim. Obviously with all the swell Matt generates in the lane on kick sets at Stratford this was the ideal preparation.

Katie having qualified in 1st place as midlands open water swam for sharks in the Open water master Nationals up in Rotherham finishing second in her age group.
Megan Also finished 6th in Iron Man Leeds, the full iron man distance !

Junior League Round up

The Junior league concluded with Sharks going up against a very strong like up including 2 teams which pull in city of Birmingham swimmers. Sharks finished the gala in 4th place with 134 points. Which out of the 24 teams in the league put us in 15th place in the table, we finished this year with a 2nd, 3rd and a 4th place across the 3 galas. It was a great team effort and a good introduction for all the younger ones into competitive swimming. There were wins in the final round for Eve (50 back), Jacob (50 breast, 50 fly).

Mercian Finals Gala

The Mercian finals gala was held at Pingles, Nuneaton, Sharks had qualified to for the A final so we were up against the top 6 teams in the league. The team were amazing on the night and we finished in 4th place. The Girls 13/14 team of Pearl, Phoebe, Amelia and Bella were incredible picking up 5 wins out of the 6 events including both relays. We also had wins for Katie (100 free) and Thomas (100 free).
The "boys" 15+ team was possible the oldest team ever fielded, with masters Neil, Peter, Jake supporting Dalton in posting the fastest 4x200 freestyle time we have recorded this year in 1:48. We have fielded a huge number of swimmers across the 3 galas this year with 59 swimmers taking part, finishing 4th out of the 12 teams was a fantastic result against some of the much bigger clubs in the area.

Cliff Lakes Water park

The club put on a well attended socials day at Cliff lakes, where over 80 members turned up for some water park fun, including a fair number of parents. Thanks to Socials organiser Sarah for sorting what will hopefully be an annual end of season event.

Graham Sykes

The graham Sykes meet too place early July, this was a 50m long course event for some of the swimmers in gold and above to have a go at long course swimming. There are not many Level 3 long course meets anywhere so it gives those who haven't got county times a chance to experience long course swimming. We took 40 swimmers along and came back with the biggest haul of ducks ever from a Coventry Gala !
There were some great swims and you can find a full list of results here.

British Nationals

At British Nationals Harry C (13yrs) competed against 19 14yr olds to come a phenomenal 9th in the 13/14 100m breaststroke final at the Aquatics GB Next Gen Championships at Sheffield Ponds Forge Swimming Pool!! Harry and Jacob are back in action for English nationals start of August.

Club New/Trustees

The club has seen a bit of a change around in management, with Des, Rob, Andrew and Penny all stepping down and new trustees Neil (chairman), Rick (secretary) and Helen (welfare) as the clubs charity trustees.
